Days at Sea and closures are forcing you to catch less. But, could less catch actually give you a marketing edge? Mainers are leading the pack by pioneering ways to buy directly from local farmers. This session illustrates how fishermen can capitalize on this trend toward supporting local food production.

Days at Sea and closures are forcing you to catch less. But, could less catch actually give you a marketing edge? Mainers are leading the pack by pioneering ways to buy directly from local farmers. This session illustrates how fishermen can capitalize on this trend toward supporting local food production. Panelists will share their experiences; discuss working with chefs, co-operatives, restaurants and retailers; share practical tools that allow fishing communities to create alternative marketing strategies and Community Supported Fisheries (CSFs); and, ways of educating consumers on quality & availability of local seafood and importance of supporting their local fishermen. This seminar will be moderated by Niaz Dorry, Coordinating Director of the Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance.
