Today, Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK) jointly introduced the Keep Finfish Free Act of 2025, a critical bill to stop federal agencies from greenlighting dangerous offshore finfish farms in U.S. waters without approval from Congress.

Why it matters: These massive, factory-style fish farms threaten wild fisheries, displace fishing communities, and turn our oceans into dumping grounds for waste, disease, and antibiotics. Let’s instead embrace values-based operations that practice low-trophic, appropriately-scaled, and community-led aquaculture. Let’s also bolster our wild fisheries by making better use of abundant, underutilized species and following the lead of community-based fishermen who fish responsibly and have been stewarding marine ecosystems for generations.
