Pedro Altagracia

Program Director

Pronouns: he/him

Pedro is NAMA's Program Director, leading our campaigns and programs.

Pedro grew up in New York City, far from the ocean and without encouragement to explore or connect with marine life. His life took a transformative turn in 2021 when he tasted his first oyster on the Seacoast of New Hampshire. This simple yet profound experience inspired him to become a farmer and sparked a deep passion for aquaculture. Motivated to better understand the Atlantic Ocean and its communities, Pedro relocated to Maine, where he has devoted himself to fostering sustainable and just communities.

Pedro’s professional journey is a testament to his remarkable blend of strategic leadership, community engagement, and environmental stewardship. He has championed initiatives that uplift underrepresented voices, safeguard the integrity of working waterfronts, and create pathways for aspiring aquaculture farmers from diverse backgrounds. Through his work, Pedro combines a love for the ocean with a commitment to equity and sustainability.

At the heart of Pedro’s efforts is an unwavering belief in the power of collaboration. He excels in building meaningful connections, cultivating partnerships, and leading initiatives that break down barriers for marginalized communities in climate justice, public health, and education. His work reflects a profound dedication to creating a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.
